Cough and Pineapple Juice

Pineapple juice is one of the best natural remedies in treating coughs and colds.

The presence of Bromelain, an enzyme that has powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties allows the juice to reduce irritation of the throat and thus relieve persistent coughing.

Also helpful is the fact that pineapple contains high amounts of vitamin C (another powerful antioxidant) as well as a wealth of vitamin A and minerals like magnesium, manganese and potassium, all of which help boost the immune system and make it easier for the body to fight off infections that cause coughs in the first place.

At this point it is important to mention that a great strategy when dealing with coughs (viral or bacterial) and other infections is to follow my recovery regime previously posted and stop ALL DAIRY products from the diet. It is very important to stop the multiplication of pathogens at the onset of the illness.

Always use fresh pineapple juice rather than canned pineapple juice for cough and cold.

You can either drink fresh pineapple juice or follow the recipe shown below for more immediate results:

Homemade pineapple juice syrup:

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium fresh pineapple

  • Juice from 1 fresh lemon

  • 1 tsp minced ginger or two-inch piece of ginger

  • 1 tbsp raw honey

  • A dash of  cayenne pepper

  • 1/4 tsp coarse sea salt

Directions:

  1. Combine pineapple, lemon, and ginger in a juicer.

  2. Stir in raw honey, salt, and cayenne pepper. Enjoy ΒΌ  cup two to three times daily for the best results.

  3. Rather than juicing the ginger, you can mince the ginger and add it to the mixture with the rest of the ingredients.
