Immune Superhero Tea

Immune Superhero Tea

This tea is extremely beneficial and helpful when you feel under the weather. The combination of all these herbs and spices gives your immune system a boost and provide you with the best possible tools to fight an infection.

Simply place 2 tbsp of the dried herbs, a cinnamon stick and a piece of ginger in 2ltrs pot of boiling hot water, cover with the lid and let it steep for 10-15 minutes. Drain it and keep it in the teapot so you can warm it up any time you may need it. Drink 2-3 cups of the tea a day. You may add some honey to taste if you like.

This tea includes the following herbs and here is why:

  • Echinacea: this herb contains active substances such as polysaccharides, glycoproteins, alkamides, volatile oils, and flavonoids that boost the immune function, relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and have antiviral and antioxidant effects. It increases white blood cells count to help the body fight the infection. Studies have shown that it can shorten the duration of the common cold, lessen the severity of its symptoms or even prevent it.

  • Elderberry: is an immune protective and antiviral herb. Studies have shown that it has anti-microbial and anti-flu properties and helps the body form powerful mucosal surfaces, strengthening our first line of defence against cold and flu.

  • Yarrow: I love this herb! Yarrow is another great herb, important to be included into your tea cocktail when your body is fighting an infection. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties, its bitter quality aids in digestion and its astringent nature means it retains water in the body and tightens the gaps between cells to slow virus mobility across tissues. One of its main important properties is that it is diaphoretic, which means it induces sweating, it increases white blood cell activity and increases your body temperature just a little bit to stop the virus reproducing.

  • Peppermint: Another anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial herb that can help relax tight muscles, reduce gas or bloating, as well as pain due to its analgesic properties.

  • Ginger: Ginger is just a fantastic medicine on its own due to its gingerol substance it contains. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of it can help strengthen your immunity and reduce oxidative stress. Its detoxifying properties stimulate the natural detox process and speed up recovery.  Inhaling the steam from ginger tea may help relieve nasal congestion and other respiratory issues from the illness.

  • Cinnamon: Such a delicious spice in your mixture that beyond its anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant function provides an anti-obstructive effect, much needed for all respiratory infections.
